Google to Acquire Valve?

Accorsing to some sources shortly there will be an annoucement that Google is to acquire Source game engine developers Valve, which would also include the Steam game distribution platform. Quite why Google would purchase Valve is a mystery to me? Maybe Half Life 2: Episode 3 will be free?
