I’d seen advert for RFG, but nothing about them really made me think, wow that’s something new I really want to play it. As soon as someone mentioned you can destroy the environment and best of all you can do it with a giant mech if you so wish, I was in there. The game is basically a standard open world free roaming job, which is great, but the real icing on the cake is that you can destroy pretty much any structure and object, buildings, bridges, vehicles etc. You play the part of a explosives expert of sorts so you start of equipped with remote explosives and a big old mining hammer type thing, both of which are capable of levelling structures in their own way. Vehicles can also be driven through and into building causing damage. Once a building becomes structurally unstable they usually collapse in a fairly realistic way. My favourite structure to topple at the moment are the giant  smoke stacks.

I haven’t actually finished the game yet, but i’d say it definitely gets better as it progresses, I recently even found a smaller walker called a “Walker Light” which even included a jet pack. My only critisisms at the moment are that the walkers rarely come into the game at least up until the point I’m at, but I’m guessing that’s to stop it from becoming too easy, the cover system is also very limited and tends to be more difficult to use than just standing behind something and manually ducking, also the character and the vehicles find it very hard to climb most hills, which is strange for a game where the landscape is made up of steep ridges and hills which can provide excellent cover for an attack.

From what I’ve read, the main difference is you collect Lego Studs (no that kind!) and these can be used to purchase various things, new costumes, clothes, Lego life insuance etc. According to Harmonix the reasoning behind Lego Rock Band is that it’s a more family friendly affair.

The game will be releasesed with some “Lego” songs apparently, I find that statement confusing in itself, but hey we’ll have to wait and see I suppose. I presume it’ll be songs and artists with bad Lego related puns.

Oh before I forget, the game doesn’t come with Lego intruments, boooooo!

It’s both disappointing and a bit exciting that it’s going to be a trilogy. I want to see what happens and what it’s all about, however waiting the good part of 5 years to see the end is a bit of a chore, but then that;’s the nature of these things.

I’d hoped that Assassins Creed 2would be set in a different time period, like perhaps between the original setting and the future that you’re actually in. However we’re back to the “good old times”. This first game play footage is genuinely exciting, as you’d expect it looks great (what doesn’t these days). Although I can’t help but think it look all too similar to the previous outing. I guess only time will tell, and to be honest I want to know what happens next in the overall story.

I’m always suspicious of any game/movie conversions in either direction. A Ghostbusters game may seem like it’s 20 odd years late, however the trailer released today actually looks pretty fucking awesome. They’ve really captured the characters and humour well (from the small amount you see). I’ll try not to get excited but June 2009 could be a very good month indeed.
